New Organization Stands Up for Safe Community!

Because of our deep concern for the medical marijuana problem in Montana, we have formed the coalition “Safe Community Safe Kids. We are addressing the marijuana issue from 3 different angles.
- Supporting our city council.
- Supporting our State Representatives and beneficial legislation.
- Giving Montana citizens an opportunity to vote again.
On May 25th we submitted a petition to place an Initiative on the ballot to repeal the Medical Marijuana Act. Below is an explanation of why we did that.In 2004, an out-of-state group called the “Marijuana Policy Project” or MPP, funded and ran a campaign in Montana to legalize medical marijuana. The MPP is an organization whose primary goal is to completely legalize marijuana. They are very open about it on their website, mpp.org (or you can look them up at wikipedia.com.) The MPP poured $555,000 into advertising that linked medical marijuana to compassion. Montanans were inundated with pictures of people suffering and were told that medical marijuana would ease their pain. They never mentioned that THC, the active ingredient in marijuana, was, and is, already available through a pharmacist. The campaign was very misleading, if not an outright lie. Montanans voted to be compassionate, what we got was a loosely regulated, rapidly growing, dangerous industry.By everyone’s admission, the Medical Marijuana Law for Montana has many, many loopholes. It was skillfully crafted to tie the hands of law enforcement and allow easy access to marijuana. It is not a law that can be fixed. Even if you are a proponent of having medical marijuana, this law can’t accomplish that safely.
Not one state has been able to regulate it. In California 117 cities and 7 counties have already banned it because nothing else worked. We believe the best way to deal with it, is to get rid of it and start over. To do this we must get it back on the ballot, get the truth to as many people as possible, and let citizens vote again. It was a citizens initiative that legalized it and it can be a citizens initiative that removes it. But, we will need your help and support. This country is supposed to be run by it citizens and it will take all of us working together to make this work.
